Omakoira, an electronic service for Finnish Kennel Club members, was launched in February 2009 and has now served our extensive membership for over five years. An impressive 100,000+ of the Finnish Kennel Club's 150,000 members have already taken the service into use.

Omakoira makes it easier for our membership to handle their affairs because it enables them to access the electronic membership service at a time that is most convenient for them. Omakoira lets members make easy and quick changes to their personal details and order various Finnish Kennel Club services. Some services, like the registration of litters, receive a discount if done via Omakoira.

Omakoira has expanded dizzyingly over the years. The service was under constant development during 2009 and new features were introduced. Electronic registration of litters was opened to our members at the very beginning. The option of recording puppy identification markings electronically was offered to veterinarians and other authorised identification markers.

The next features to be added were online bank payments and applying electronically for championship titles. An extra feature introduced in conjunction with online bank payments showed Omakoira users when health examination information and statements had arrived. The opportunity to enter the identification marking of one dog and make ownership notifications and changes for several owners were taken into use in September 2009.

In 2010, Omakoira opened registrations for member associations in addition to personal members as well as made it possible to submit electronic action statements and sign the breeder commitment electronically. The dog registration application has been expand to include international certificates, i.e. CACIB  listings for the international umbrella organisation Fédération Cynologique International (FCI), and issue electronic insurance value statements, in addition to which changes were made to implement common Nordic dog show rules and regulations.

A dog show system, which is integrated with the Finnish Kennel Club's systems, was first introduced to handle dog show entries before being taken into comprehensive use in 2012. The online data recording capabilities of the system have been tested at several different dog shows. The aim is to record the results from all FCI World Dog Show 2014 judging rings directly on site using tablet computers. Almost all results of last December's Koira2013 event were already recorded and published as an online service linked to the Finnish Kennel Club website.

The Finnish Kennel Club processed its first digital x-ray images in December 2012. The receiving of these digital images was tested in cooperation with dozens of pilot clinics and veterinarians throughout the year and the service was opened to all clinics in December 2013. Omakoira began to support the recording of back health statements a little earlier that autumn.

Omakoira now also supports the registration of imported dogs and electronic applications for kennel prefixes, among other things. The Finnish Kennel Club's puppy exchange functions with Finnish-, Swedish- and English-language user interfaces. More services are being developed constantly.
